Hard Drive:  The hard drive is used to store all of your software programs and data.  This also includes the operating system that boots up your computer.

Floppy Drive: A floppy drive is used to store data.  Example: Word documents.

CD-Rom, CDRW, or DVD: The CD-Rom is used to install software on your computer.  If you have a CDRW you can also backup CD-Rom disk or copy larger amounts of data that a floppy can not store.  A DVD can do the same as a CD-Rom and also play DVD movies.

Motherboard or Mainboard: This board basically controls all of the parts inside of a computer.  The CPU chip, Ram memory, modem, video, and any other ports or boards .

Keyboard: Used to input information by typing on it.

Mouse: The mouse is moved by your hand so you can point to a place on your monitor or screen and click that point.
